Dandruff
is a common hair problem that bothers millions
of people. During its early stages dandruff is
not visible to the naked eye. It becomes visible
as a result of the growth of bacteria and or as
a result of problems with seborrhoeic
dermatitis scalp condition. In the milder
stage, there is scaling in which the entire scalp
may be covered with loose dry scales.
Dandruff is thought to cause by over growth of
yeast such as pityrosporum
ovule which live on normal skin. This over
growth comes local itching resulting in hyper
proliferation of cell (Keratinocytes) forming
the outer layer of skin. These form scales which
accumulate and are shed as dandruff
flakes. In later stage dandruff is visible
as large pieces of dead skin and often there is
grate itching as well, and scalp may be red from
scratching and this should be avoided --DON”T
SCRATCH!
Many people also complain that with dandruff there
is an increase in hair loss as well. But there
is no established relationship between dandruff
and loss of hair. But it is certainly a warning
about the health of your hair and may lead to
eczema if not treated.
One way of treating fatty dandruff is to prevent
the growth of bacteria as the Malassezia
fur fur bacteria are the cause of this
condition.
The effective treatment for dandruff is to use
a medicated shampoo specifically designed to remove
dandruff. But people who suffer dry scalp should
be avoided the use of shampoo daily or it can
lead to eczema and in that cases you can try a
simple home remedies. Also strictly avoid shampoos
that contain sodium laurel sulfate, or sodium
laureate sulfate.
There is no specific food habit to fight dandruff.
Some studies reveled that food
rich in biotin (also called vitamin
H or B7) and zinc helps fight dandruff.
Egg, wheat, and cereals are rich in biotin.
There is no medical evidence that stress causes
dandruff. Also dandruff may not occur due to sharing
of comb or pillows as the flakes that one sees
on comb and pillows are dead cells.
Massage of some vinegar
into your hair and scalp and wash after 15-20
minutes and repeat this process daily till the
problem disappears is a useful tip. There are
many useful home remedies which can be used as
a first aid are depicted under heading “Hair
Care Home Remedies”.
It is important and desirable that if you have
a persistent problem of dandruff, you may consult
