Obesity is most often defined in terms of body weight relative to height, since both height and weight are easily measurable. If analyze more precisely, ideal body weight depends on your height, sex, age and type of body build viz. with large, medium, or small frames. Though over weight may cause due to thyroid problems or hormone imbalance, or on an inherited tendency to put on weight easily, the major reason for obesity is over eating and lack of exercise. If you eat more calories than you burn off, the surplus calories are stored as fat. Extra weight is due to extra eating !

It is surprising to note that if you eat just one extra slice of bread a day above your actual needs and continue this for 5 years you will add 45 pounds (20.5kg) 90 lbs (41 kg) in 10 years and so on to your body.

Obesity can have devastating consequences for health and happiness. On an emotional level it can lead to a lack of self – esteem and depression as you cannot enjoy a real active life.

Women are more prone to obesity than men because their bodies are more efficient at storing fat. Obesity can also lower a woman’s chances of conception.

The prevalence of obesity increases with age, is higher in women than men, Obesity increases the likelihood of high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes and therefore of the diseases for which such conditions are risk factors — coronary heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. It also increases the likelihood of gallbladder disease and cancers of the breast and uterus. Thus, obesity increases overall mortality rates, and it does so in proportion to the degree and duration of overweight. Individuals who become obese at the earliest ages are at highest risk of premature mortality. Distribution of excess fat to the upper body rather than the lower body may also increase risk….”

Though the causes of obesity are incompletely understood the studies suggest that programs combining diet and exercise help obese individuals lose more weight and maintain losses longer than either program does separately.

Always remember that if you eat just one slice of bread less a day against your actual needs and continue this for 5 years you will reduce 45 pounds (20.5kg) 90 lbs(41 kg)in 10 years and so on from your body.
