Apple
Apples are good source of vitamin C, which is
an antioxidant and helps to maintain the immune
system. The fresh and uncooked apples are traditionally
used to treat constipation whereas the stewed
apples are used for diarrhea and gastroenteritis.
Some verities of apples contain large quantity
of phosphorus than any other fruit or vegetable.
Because of this it is an invaluable nerve
and brain nutrient. Sufferers from nerve
and brain exhaustion should eat at least two apples
at the beginning of each meal.
Dried apples are useful for athletes as a source
of carbohydrate that is quickly converted to energy.
By weight for weight, dried apples contain six
times more calories than fresh apples.
Apples are highly beneficial in the treatment
of all types of headaches. A ripe apple, after
removing the upper rind and the inner hard portion
should be taken with a little salt every morning
on empty stomach is beneficial in such cases.
Apples are also
invaluable to sufferers from the stone or calculus
and used in poultices for skin inflammation.
Banana
The banana is invaluable in inflammation of
all kinds. For this reason it is very useful
in cases of typhoid fever, gastritis, peritonitis,
etc., and may constitute the only food allowed
for a time.
Bananas are excellent food for anemic persons
on account of the iron they contain. A very
palatable way of taking them is with fresh orange
juice and they contain all the 8 amino acids
our body cannot produce itself. Bananas are
a good source of fiber, potassium and vitamin
C.
A comparatively
old-fashioned remedy, for sprained or bruised
places that show a tendency to become inflamed
is to apply a plaster of banana skin.
Carrots
Carrots
are strongly antiseptic and excellent source of
beta carotene. They are said to be mentally invigorating
and nerve restoring. They have the reputation
of being very indigestible and unlike other vegetables,
carrots are more nutritious eaten cooked than
raw. It is because the raw carrots have tough
cellular walls, the body is able to convert less
than 25 % of their beta carotene in to vitamin
A .But when used medicinally it is best to take
the fresh, raw juice.
Raw carrot juice
or a raw carrot eaten fasting, will expel worms.
The cooked carrot is useless for this purpose.
A poultice of fresh
carrot pulp will heal ulcers. Fresh carrot juice
is also good for consumptives on account of
the large amount of sugar it contains.
Carrots are very
good for gouty subjects and for derangements
of the liver.
